Gore Men's Ozon Bibtights Short+ (Black, Medium) Review

I second Mr. Seybold's review. I bought a pair of Ozon I's two years ago. I first wore them in winter under unpadded tights and sometimes rainpants, then alone in spring and summer, riding 300-400 miles a week. At summer's end I snatched up three more pairs on sale, because they worked. I had other bibs that chafed my bum on longer rides, and it was not fun to have to stand up every couple minutes after 40 miles with 20 left go go to relieve severe burning pain. The ozons let me sit, sit, sit, unless I needed to stand up to climb or sprint. Gore buys EIT pads from Assos/Cytech, which explains their comfort.

I have some Assos FI Mille bibs, which are great too, but the Ozons are my main go-to's (since I own more pairs of them). They fit differently, but both models are totally comfortable for rides of 50, 70, 100 miles, and the Ozons on sale are the stand-out "Best Buy". (For Assos, the best haggle-free prices are in the UK, dealers here are reluctant to go below MSRP unless you personally negotiate "deals", and even then they don't match wiggle's prices, at least for ordinary customers.)

In summary, the Ozons' quality is in no way a compromise compared to Assos. How is this possible? Gore & Associates is a large diverse-products multinational company. It can get lowest prices on materials, it gets low production costs in China (vs. Assos' Slovenia/ Bulgaria, and the Chinese have 3000 years of fine-textile and garment-making experience, so they know what they are doing), and the company can afford to run the bike-wear division at a lower profit margin than if it only made bike-wear. This is why GBW shorts are comparable in performance to Assos, at lower price, but are superior to similarly priced shorts made by other companies that only make bikewear, in my personal experience. If you ride 60 mi/week, just about anything works. For 60 mi/day, you discover that just about anything does not work.
