This is a shoe I have definitely been looking forward to for the past 6 months, as I was immediately intrigued when the news about them first broke on birthdayshoes.com. Previously, I had always wondered why shoe companies didn't try to further mimmick the success of Vibram and their ultra-minimalist footwear. Luckily, our prayers have been answered with the Merrell Vapor Glove.

Merrell has really hit a home run with this brand new show. For myself, I prefer wearing a shoe with socks as I've come to the realization that getting the odor out of these shoes from running barefoot is almost impossible. Therefore, I prefer running in Injinji socks with my Vibrams (KSOs, Bikilas). However, the problem is that the socks can become a bit pricey (you purchase them by the single pair). Also, when you're clocking at least 25+ miles in them a week (even when rotating between the 10 or so pairs I have) they quickly begin to wear down in the forefoot and toe areas.

Side random note, but it's also a pain in the butt when you take Injinji socks with you for a run and realize you grabbed a pair of two left-footed socks. (who HASN'T done that???)

Which leads me to the amazing shoes known as Merrell Vapor Gloves. These shoes offer the best ground feel from a traditional "shoe" that I have ever experienced. They are definitely comparable to my Vibram KSOs, if not a bit thinner. In terms of a traditional running shoe, this is the shoe I've been waiting for. Yes, I've looked into Vivobarefoot running shoes but the price is a bit much. For the cost (I found these under 80 dollars) this is the best deal I've found. I've done several runs in them with few to no complaints.

PROS:

-Great ground feel
-Easy Lacing System
-Large toe-box
-Durable, yet very flexible
-Thin, but sturdy

CONS:

-Sizing may run a bit large for some. I normally wear a 9, but found that to be too big. Had to return for an 8.5
-A little narrow in the midfoot area (everyone has a different shaped foot, though, so it's understandable)
-Limited color options (more of a nit-pick)

Best of all, I no longer have to pay for overpriced Injinji socks! I can go to Target and buy 10 pairs of sock liners for 12 bucks and save plenty of money! Thanks Merrell!

I started training for a half marathon in August and tried 3 different sneaker styles before I landed on these AMAZING shoes! It literally is like running on a cushion the entire time. They feel great on the treadmill and even better outside on the harder surface. Just ran 8 miles in them today and decided somewhere during those miles that I HAD to write a review so others knew how fantastic they were! The price that Amazon offers them at is just icing on the cake to me, especially since I've seen other highly praised running shoes go for sometimes four times the price of these! I've always loved Mizuno Alchemy. LOVED them. They're the only shoes that doesn't give me any problems while running. I have the Alchemy 11 (my favorite by the way).
I bought the Alchemy 12's and wore them several times and I can barely run without pain. They are hard as a rock. My shins hurt, my feet hurt, there is no cushion like the 11's. I HATE these 12's. I've ran outside once and made it a mile. Ran the treadmill for 5 (horrible). Did they change something about them? Someone mentioned that I need to "break them in" Disappointing in that my Alchemy 11's never needed broke in. I'm thinking about sending them back. I did buy another pair of the 11's b/c I really liked them that much. I could wear them for my cross training since they don't bother me for that but I have other shoes for those classes (spinning, turbo, and BodyPump).

Anyone else having issues with the 12's or is it just me? Did I just get a bad pair?

Mini Micro Scooter - RED Review

We bought this scooter for our Grandson's 2nd birthday. It's a sweet little scooter! Yes it's a bit more expensive than most of the other kid scooters on the market but rightfully so. The wheels glide smoothly on bearings, the configuration of the two wheels at the front and one at the back make a big difference in the experience of learning to ride (avoids the accidental kicking of wheels when pushing off). He's only had it a week so far, yet I'm genuinely amazed at how quickly he has mastered the entire concept. The steering 'lean' versus handle turn is proving to be a bit of a learning curve but he's beginning to master that as well. The scooter seems well made - mfg in Switzerland - built sturdy with just the right amount of understated kid appeal. It gets ridden every day! Coupled with his Paul Frank Skull and Cross Bones helmet, the little dude rocks it! The scooter is worth the extra investment, easy to ride-even for the inexperienced, well made and most of all, apparently fun! You won't go wrong with this one.

Military Outdoor Clothing U.S. Military Double Gun Case, Black Review

Picked this up for my Rem 597 and my AR. Construction is very good. Locking zippers, shoulder strap, stitching, solid/thick material. Should take a beating. Lots of padding to protect the equipment. One surprising thing that isn't noted in the description is this case has backpack straps. At least they aren't pictured on the Amazon photos. Nice little addition.

Lots of space for magazines, cleaning kit, sidearms, etc. The pistol pocket is a double pocket so you can slip multiple pistols in the same pocket and not scratch them up. The shooting mat isn't just placed inside the case, instead it has a velcro flap that mates to the inside binding of the case. This is another nice surprise because the mat won't fall out or shift around at all.

I'm happy with this purchase. I did find it $10 cheaper after it arrived (but not through Amazon and thus I suspect might involve slightly less consumer protections). Because it wasn't sold by Amazon the shipping made it a little pricey (+$15) but considering the options even with shipping it's on par with other cases. The big difference was the shooting mat when compared to other makes. Given the option you have to remove the mat I figured it was worth a chance. Also the mat folds triptychly so you could easily stow a 3rd long arm. Although there aren't any velcro straps for that 3rd rifle and the case would be hella heavy it's still an option. Sometimes you just need the case to prevent scratches while in the trunk and you don't need to carry the rifles very far. In this instance the option to carry 3 rifles is pretty nice.

I recently joined a friend for spin class and found out how great this workout is!! I noticed that many people had the spin shoes with the SPD clips and decided to buy a pair to help enhance my performance. I am also a runner and found that when I was riding out of the saddle it put a lot of pressure on my plantar through my workout shoe. The spinning shoes have a hard sole which alleviates that pressure. I read a lot of reviews and decided to try the Pearl iZUMi shoes as they have good feedback and are reasonably priced. BE AWARE - you really should order these shoes 1/2 size larger than what you regularly wear -especially if your foot is not narrow. I made the mistake of ordering my true shoe size. During my first class with the new shoes my toes were squashed into the toe and were throbbing the next day (may even lose a nail on the tall toe). I returned the shoes and ordered a half size bigger which fit perfectly!! The sizes are Euorpean so they don't truly measure true to US sizes; hence the problem (e.g. a size 40 is actually a 7.8 in US sizing). Love these shoes now - so comfortable and they have truly made a difference in my performance in spin class. You will need to order the SPD clips (they don't come with the shoe) and they are relatively easy to install (check out you-tube videos) or if you need to, have the bike shop install for you.
