Over 1.3 million M14 combat rifles were issued to U.S. Military Veterans of the 1960s and early 70s. The standard service rifle for U.S. Army and Marine infantry was a modification of the famous M1 Garand, developed in the 1930s and utilized throughout World War II. Winchester Model M 14 Semi-Automatic CO2 Air Rifle Review

I have read many reviews of this air rifle in which people complained about the amount of plastic used. Yes, there is a lot of plastic, but I think these critics are missing the point here. It is a light weight rifle and I think that is just fine. It doesn't tire you like a wood and steel M14 would and it certainly doesn't cost what an M14 or even a full metal and wood replica would cost. What you do get is an amazingly accurate and powerful co2 gun.

I own the Crosman single shot 2300T with the Walthar Lothar precision barrel which is a very accurate pistol set up with the removable stock as a carbine. This Winchester M14 is every bit as accurate and I believe it is even more accurate, with the added convenience of a double 8 round stick magazine. I own many air rifles and pistols, none of which come close to the accuracy of this rifle.

I was able to group 5 shots (the size of a quarter) in the red bullseye from a distance of 75ft standing off-hand. I have never done that before with any of my firearms or airguns. And, I can shoot all day with out my arms getting tired (which says a lot since I'm 70 years young). I put a sling on my M14 ( Ultimate Arms Gear Tactical M1 M-1 Carbine Military Mil Spec Quality Classic WWII Reproduction OD Olive Drab Green Canvas 1.00" Rifle Sling by Ultimate Arms Gear) available at Amazon. The plastic used in this rifle is a very strong and durable composite material. I'm not worried about breaking it. If wood is important to you, I understand that at least one person has replaced the plastic with wood for that more realistic feel by using a M1/M14 surplus stock and some dremel work. I'm not going to do that as I appreciate the light weight and durability of the composite stock it came with.

Another thing, I appreciate the the 2 cartridge (CO2) power plant of this rifle. The 2 co2 cartridges give this rifle the power it has and I get about 80 good shots with it (that's about $.0125/shot). And, it is a lot cheaper than those 88 gram co2 cartridges to operate shot for shot. I own the Beretta CX4 Storm pellet carbine that uses these 88 gram cartridges and every time I have to replace one it's $12 (for about 180 shots or $.06/shot) for comparable power.

I can honestly recommend this pellet rifle for young and old...if you can aim, you will hit what you are shooting at!

Cygolite Metro 300 Lumen Headlight/Hotshot Taillight USB Rechargeable Bicycle Light System, Black Review

I am very glad that I went with CygoLite. I did consider several competing brands and now feel confidant that I made the right choice in Cygolite. The 300 Lumen light is able to completely light up a house half a block away at night. I can bike at full speed at night and see far enough ahead without worries of running into something on the ground. I have had oncoming traffic stop at bike crossings for me thinking I was a motorcycle or possible a train crossing the road in their direction, only to have confused look on their faces when a bicycle crosses in front of them. I find that I hardly use the light at it brightest setting even low works great at night on paved trails. The Metro 300 also turns on and off with the last used setting, which is untypical of older Cygolite units. The hotshot taillight is also very bright and can be see from very far away even during the day. The battery life appears to be great, I don't even need to recharge the batteries after each ride. I however have yet to use the lights for a night ride over 3 hours, so I can't really say how long a single battery charge can last.

Zoic Men's Black Market Convertible Cycling Pant with Liner, Black, Large Review

I live in Michigan and bought these pants so I could continue my biking season into the cold temps.

I am not a super experienced biker, but have been trying to increase my fitness and ride more frequently. I am not in great shape (yet) so, I did not feel comfortable going with full on tights!. I thought these would be a good compromise. I tried cycling in sweat pants/basketball pants, but the leg would always flap and get caught in the chain. I also liked that these were 'zip off' shorts too, as biking gear is expensive, and I thought this would really increase the use I could get out of my investment.

So far I am very happy with these pants! I have probably ridden about 200 miles in them...
I ride both on a road bike, and on trails with a mountain bike.

The quality of these seems very high. I am very pleased with the workman ship, and the large assortment of usefull pockets, etc... including slots for headphone cords for music players/phones...

The fit was a bit tight (I bought XXL), and the material is stretchy (almost like tights), so it does hug you. It is a good compromise between tights and excercise pants. I probably wouldn't just wear these pants around like excercise pants...I would recommend going one size up.

They work very well for warmth and wind breaking. Also does not seem to be a problem when they get wet. I have been very comfortable warmth wise in the low 40's to upper 30s. Also I have put on another layer of chili-pepper long underwear, and have been comfortably warm in low 30's.

One thing that is very nice about these is that they come with a padded chamois liner that is removable. This is very handy and done well.

One somewhat odd thing, is that the cuffs 'button' up to keep them out of the way of your chain. At first this seemed a bit strange, as I was expecting velcro or some sort of strap. But it seems to work fine, and has not come undone while I am riding, So I am good with it.

Overall I would say go for it! Great Pants, and they will be useful year-round.

Shimano Women's WM51 Mountain Shoes - Black, 40 M EU Review

This is a great shoe and a great value for the price. I teach at two different gyms and I needed a second pair of spin shoes, so I just purchased this shoe. This is a sharp looking shoe and very comfortable. I wear a 9.5 US and purchased size 42 however, the sizes do run a little big. I would recommend these shoes, however, just keep in mind the size. The SPD clips are not included. My recommendation is to always get clips put on at a local bike shop. It will make a huge difference to have them put on correctly. Most will do it for a reasonable charge $15-25 dollars. I did recommend these to my students and they also like them.

I saw these glasses in a gold box special at ~$70 off. If I didn't like them I could always return them.
I was really surprised at the quality of these sunglasses. My $220 Maui Jim's fell to the ground and one of the lenses had a chip which developed into a giant crack. I really didn't want to spend that much on something so fragile.
The Bolle's are fantastic. The polarization is right on target. When you tilt your head left and right you don't get extreme changes in polarization which can be distracting with other brands.
They came shipped in a nice rigid case with cleaning cloth.
I will say they sit close to the face, which I like. It keeps the maximum amount of sun out of your eyes. Those of you fortunate enough to have extra long eyelashes may want to test drive these first.
Overall, I'm very pleased.

Short story: Yes, Vibram's are awesome, they have given me a new running life, and if you've been plagued with running injuries I'd suggest trying them.

Long story: I'm 47 years old and have been a "gym rat" since high school. About ten years ago a coworker told me about a local "Mud Run" and I thought it sounded good. Knowing I' was creeping up on the 40 year old mark and knew it would be a good time to start mixing in some cardio, so I signed up.

I went to Road Runner Sports shoe store, did the treadmill foot examination thing, and left with a pair of "Stability" shoes. I started slow and built my running up to ten miles a week by the 8th week and it was at this point my ITB started giving me problems.

Being a gym rat and somewhat of an athlete who understands the body and injury I began a long process of trying to run without pain. I did a lot of research on running websites, at running stores, and read books like Chi Running by Danny Dreyer. In the following years I tried to perfect Chi Running and tried every ITB stretch routine, roller pads, ice + Ibuprofen, countless shoes, and even took 4 months off of running. And although I was able to improve my pain free running distance, I still could not run 5 miles without experiencing a lot of ITB knee pain, so much that I couldn't run more than 6 or 7 miles on a good day, and my top pace was around 8:30 min/mile.

About two years ago I read a blog from a runner who said barefoot running eliminated his ITB issues by forcing him to run with a natural gait, stride, pace, etc. I figure I had nothing to lose, I've spent a fortune on shoes and a lot of time running, stretching, rolling, and eating Ibuprofen, so I bought my first pair of Vibram shoes, the Komodo sport in 2009.

Again, I'm a gym guy, so I know the risk of jumping into physical activities and doing too much too soon. I walked in them and wore them to the gym for about a month before attempting to run in them, and even then I started running on the treadmill first. I ran on the treadmill for about another month before my first road run. My first run was two miles and I monitored my body, specifically my feet, the whole way. It felt great!! I kept my runs short for the next four weeks, never running more than 2 miles, but increasing my pace (I use a Garmin GPS watch) and eventually got my two mile run down to 14:18, by far the fastest I've ever run.

I now own three pairs of Vibram shoes, the KomodoSport, the TrekSport, and the new SeeYa. I've only wore the SeeYa once, so I can't give a review yet, but I can say this in general, I have been running without ITB problems ever since. I live near Mission Trails regional park in San Diego so I've added trail running to spice things up. I'm currently training for my first half marathon this June, the Rock n' Roll in San Diego, and will be running the Camp Pendleton Mud run the week after that, all in my Vibram shoes.

BUT, and this is an important note, I've had one minor foot injury from stepping on an uneven road surface that kept me from running and was limping around for a few weeks, it hurt like hell! I'm also just recovering from a moderate calf strain that sidelined me for 5 weeks (probably was over doing it). Here's the deal folks, our feet have been in the equivalent of a cast for our most of our life. Our foot tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones have not been used much and will take a while the strengthen, but the good news is they will strengthen and adapt if you're patient.

For me "barefoot" running changed virtually everything in my running economy. I believe I achieved "Chi Running" naturally because when I run in Vibram's I don't have the option of a heel strike, long strides, and I don't have the unnatural heel to toe drop of running shoes. I don't have to think about most of bad running issues because my natural instinct takes over the moment my feet sense the terrain. It's like being a kid again, running barefoot makes me feel like I'm playing again. My new goal is to improve my running economy even more by finding a way to lessen the strain on my calf muscles. Vibram's have definitely increased the use of my calf muscles, very sore, and getting more muscular, so be ready for that change too, a lot more calf stretches in your stretch routine will go a long way.

Tanner Tee Review

My husband has been playing professional baseball for more than a decade. He's tried many many baseball tees, each tested with thousands of swings, but the Tanner Tee is his favorite. The one we have now is more than 5 years old, and we have never even needed to replace the rubber. It still works as great as day 1. His only advice is to get a 5 lb or 10 lb barbell weight to put over the shaft so it rests on the base (this advice goes for any tee really, not just Tanner Tees). This helps keep it stable and from being knocked over easily.

I bought this backpack mainly to carry my 17 inch Dell inspiron laptop when I travel, and here is what I have so far:

The first thing I did when I got it was to put in my laptop to see if it would fit, and the answer is subject to debate. I had to force it in and barely made it. I did not like how it fits, and its pushing the zippers outward. This made me really upset because I really liked this backpack, and I think I got it for a good price compared to the Renegade, which I also considered buying (seems like its the upgraded version of this one), but it costs almost double the price (at least for me at the time I was shopping).
I almost returned it upset, but then decided for some reason to reach inside the laptop compartment where I found a sort of "pillow" at the bottom of the laptop compartment that was velcroed at the bottom. This is probably a cushion for additional protection against drops. Anyway, I took it out, and then put my laptop back in, and it fit much nicer now. It probably lost some of its protection at the bottom by doing this, but I think it is still well protected there. Because I had to do this, I'm giving it 4 stars. Maybe It is there so that smaller laptops fit better (again I have a 17inch Dell inspiron) because It still feels like its padded beyond that.

Another thing worth mentioning is that this backpack is surprisingly light. I believe it weights between 2-3 pounds.

Also, when I put in my laptop in, the inside pockets (where the ipad goes) looses some of its room (note that my laptop is thick), so it is a lot harder to fit an ipad there. Well, let's say if you had a bare ipad with no case, it would probably fit. I have a case on my ipad and it does not fit in it, but I don't care, I can still fit the ipad inside the backpack and still have plenty of room (just not in the pocket they designed for it.

It has some nice other compartments for by big headset, external drives, neck pillow, and a sweater and snacks (this is usually what I travel with), and because the backpack is a lot lighter than my swiss army one, it is much more pleasant to carry.
The sunglass compartment is NOT crushproof, its just a little fabric pocket, but I can fit my sunglasses in their original case there, so problem solved.

All in all, it was money well spent and bang for your buck as this is a very well crafted backpack. If price is no object to you however, I'd go with the Ogio renegade because it looks cooler and looks like it is the upgraded version of this one.

New Balance Men's MO1099 Boot,Grey,12.5 D US Review

Like the previous reviewer, I have owned quite a few pair of New Balance athletic shoes and am grateful that at least one athletic shoe company caters to us folks who have wide feet. It's been a blessing to find shoes that fit. One thing I have learned, though, with New Balance's gym/running shoes is to step up to their higher priced models. The difference in quality from the low end models is very significant.
I have to wonder if these boots, priced on the low end for hiking boots, aren't revealing some of New Balance's shortcomings with their lower priced models.
CONS: Consistency in Sizing?? The previous reviewer found that a full size smaller than his normal shoe fit perfectly. I chose to follow the advice on New Balance's website that this boot "runs true to size." I ordered the same size I've been wearing for years in New Balance's gym shoes, and these boots are very tight. The 4E width is snug, and my toes are squeezed against the front of the boot. Also, little extra fabric is allowed in the tongue, and while I do not have what's considered a high instep, I can't slide this boot on without using a shoe horn. Finally, the padded insert for this boot is CHEAP. New Balance's better quality running shoes have a nicely padded insert. The one for this boot is barely more than a thin foam strip, and there doesn't seem to be much of a pliable layer to "break in" before one is standing on the realtively hard vibram sole.
PROS: These seem to be pretty well made for a light-medium trail boot, and they are definitely light in weight. However, I tend to go off-trail frequently, so I am skeptical about how they will perform for heavy hiking and casual climbing on rocks.
I like these hiking boots well enough to try anohter size and and am hoping that a full size larger allows them fit as comfortably as the previous reviewer reports them to be.
