I purchased this for the purpose of off-road mountain biking at night. Packaging was easy to open and all the components were there in mint condition. The battery was fully charged from the factory (though they state it may not be).

If you are looking to mount it on your handlebars, it took me all of five seconds to mount the light with the rubber attachment ring, another ten seconds to mount the battery to the lower side of my top tube via the adjustable Velcro straps, connect the power leads, and fire it up. Nothing to it. Just be sure to leave enough slack in the cord (this is manged by the attached Velcro strap) to allow for full side-to-side swing of your handlebars.

However, if you use it like I do and as I think it is intended, as a helmet-mounted spot light to complement a handlebar-mounted flood light (I use the MagicShine model MJ-872 1600lm), then you will need to purchased the MagicShine Helmet Mount Kit which includes the helmet strap / mount and a long extension cord. Depending on your helmet, this could be a super easy mounting, or a more challenging mount. I found it easiest and most secure to just use a pair of zip-ties to secure it to any available holes in the helmet. Cut 'em off when you need to move the mount to another helmet. Ten seconds, two cents, no mess, no fuss.

My first impression was that this unit was built to last. Sturdy, yet lightweight. I love the color-coded battery life indicator on the backside of the light. Easy to view and cool bling! Not too bright to be distracting in the least. The battery is well protected and thus far totally rain proof (I live the Pacific Northwest where we ride rain or shine). Battery life seems to live up MagicShine's claims, but I haven't tested in lab conditions. I also just learned how to set the flashing light mode for daylight "see me" riding. From the powered-off condition, hold the mode button in for four seconds until it starts flashing, then release.

I hate to say it, but these units simply beat the competition hands down when it comes to performance and price.
