Product Description
The update to the wildly successful 813, the New Balance 877 retains the slipper-like feel of the previous edition but completely updates the upper with a welded application to eliminate irritation that comes from rubbing. The stretch textile upper is a fashion-forward statement perfect for the gym or a boot camp class at the park, and the durable pivot point outsole assists you and offers stable ground contact as you work out.New Balance Men's MX877 Cardio Cross-Training Shoe,Silver,12 2E US Review
I exclusively wear NB athletic shoes because they are the only shoes out there that accommodate my wide, flat feet. NB has an irritating tendency to either replace great shoes with inferior ones (e.g., replacing the 833 running shoe with the 840) or just drop great shoes (e.g., the 871). This 877 is actually an update to the 813, so I naturally expected that the 813 would be great and the 877 would be inferior. I ordered both to compare. To my utter surprise and joy, I found that the 813 was great - and the 877 was even better! The 877 is a cushiony-soft cardio shoe that I use for Krav Maga and related cardio workouts. The arch support is not great, so I wear Feetures socks with arch support, with the Feetures Plantar Fasciitis Sleeve on top of the socks. (Expensive, but an amazingly good investment for my arch problems). I can usually get through the workouts without too much arch pain, but heavy-duty lateral drills are still hard on the arches in these shoes.
Both the 813 and the 877 are extremely comfortable, but here is why I prefer the 877 to the 813:
* The toe covering of the 877 is more substantial, but still retains the flexibility of the 813. Helpful when doing round kicks against heavy punching/kicking bags!
* The pivot area on the sole of the 877 is helpful when ...um...pivoting for punches and kicks.
* The heel area is not quite as deep. I always have problems with the heel of shoes digging into me. The 813 was OK, but the 877 is a better fit for me (but, it might not be for you, of course).
I ended up keeping the 877 and returning the 813, but you would do well with either model. I advise you to try both, as I did, to see which one you prefer.
